The last glasstec was held in October 2000 and attracted 52,000 trade visitors from 74 nations, an increase of 16 percent over the show/ previous staging in 1998 and again confirming its status as the No. 1 trade fair for the glass industry worldwide. Nearly half of the visitors arrived from countries other than Germany. Additionally, visitors indicated that they were mainly interested in glass processing and finishing machinery, as well as glass manufacturing and production technologies, glass products and applications. glasstec 2000 featured 1,024 exhibitors from 41 countries, an increase of 100 companies over the show/ previous staging. The exhibitors occupied nearly 625,000 square feet of space in nine exhibit halls and displayed the latest machinery, equipment, applications, and products for the glass industry. Nearly 60 percent of the glasstec 2000 exhibitors were from countries outside Germany. The leading foreign exhibitor nations were Italy with 172 companies, the U.S. with 64, the United Kingdom with 63, France with 52, and Belgium with 44 exhibitors. Of the 64 U.S. companies at glasstec 2000, 23 participated within the successful North American Pavilion, organized by Messe Dvseldorf North America and co-sponsored by the National Glass Association (NGA)
